It’s a herbaceous plant of 1 m high, with angular, hardened stems, with plenty of leaves. These are lanceolate and deeply lobed. Branches end up in a prickly capitulate flower of pink or white flowers and purple stamens. Leaves and stems are of a bitter taste.
