Active principles

  • Flavonoids (2%): quercetin heterosides (isorrhutoside, palustroside, cynaroside).
  • Iridoids: asperuloside, monotropitoside, geniposidic and asperulosidic acids.
  • Organic acids: p-hydroxycinnamic, gallic, vanillic, caftaric, salicylic, citric acids.
  • Others: furofuran-type lignans, tannins, alkaloids, anthraquinones, aromatic compounds and traces of coumarins (furomolugin).

Pharmacological action

  • Diuretic.
  • Spasmolytic.
  • Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.
  • Choleretic, cholagogue and hepatoprotective.
  • Others: healing, antibacterial, antifungal.

Indications

  • Urinary infections.
  • Prevention of kidney stones.
  • Gastrointestinal spasms.
  • In topical use: superficial wounds and ulcers, acne, gingivitis. In the form of compresses or rinses.

Contraindications

Pregnancy and lactation.

Precautions

Due to its diuretic effect, caution is recommended in people with low blood pressure.
