The
Executive Director of Soria Natural, Rafael Esteban Ollo, got this week the authorization
that will allow Fitonat to sell raw materials —hemp oil— with the aim
of manufacturing products based on this ingredient. Moreover, a new range
of cannabis products for cosmetics, food supplements and herbal medicines will be
launched. In a meeting that has been organized by the Health Secretary in
Mexico, through COFEPRIS (Comisión Federal para la Protección contra Riesgos
Sanitarios in Spanish), Soria Natural has obtained the authorization, along
with other 37 products, such as raw materials, supplements, cosmetics and foodstuffs.
All the authorized products comply with the Guidelines for the Sanitary Control
of Cannabis and its derivatives and contain less than 1% of tetrahydrocannabinol
(THC), which is the ingredient with the psychoactive effects of marijuana.
During the
authorization ceremony, the Federal Commissioner of COFEPRIS, Julio Sánchez y
Tépoz, described the moment as “a historic event for Mexico” since the commercialization,
export and import of products containing cannabis and its derivatives have been
forbidden in the country for the last 90 years.
For his part,
Rafael Esteban claimed that, for Soria Natural, this authorization means one
step forward in the company’s commitment to its development and expansion in
Mexico.
Fitonat is
the single company of Spanish capital that has obtained COFEPRIS permits. Along
with it, four Mexican and two US companies have also been authorized.
