There is a close relationship between what we eat and our mood. Did you know that some foods can simulate serotonin, the happy hormone?

An unbalanced or bad nutrition can produce specific deficiencies of vitamins and minerals. This makes us feel disinterested, apathetic, nervous, tired or not paying enough attention. 

Serotonin, tryptophan and other elements or substances are the ones in charge of our happiness.  

Serotonin is known as the hormone of happiness. Any alteration of the levels of this hormone in the organism influences us in choosing one food over the other. When the levels are low, we choose to eat sweet food. This neurotransmitter is synthetised from a certain amino acid: tryptophan that our body doesn’t produce and which needs to be taken through our daily diet. Thus, tryptophan-rich food work as natural antidepressants.

Dark chocolate: if you eat little portions of dark chocolate everyday, it will help you fight against stress hormones. Thanks to dark chocolate, you may feel calm and, consequently, you’ll feel more relaxed and with a better mood. 

Banana: it has vitamins, minerals, fibre and tryptophan. Eating it provides a fast increase of energy. In case you do some sport, the recommendation is taking one banana a day. 

Seeds and nuts: almonds, hazelnuts, pumpkin seeds, etc, provides us phosphorus, magnesium and zinc. When the body doesn’t have enough of these nutrients, it is possible to suffer from headache, insomnia, nervousness or fatigue. 

Tuna and salmon: they rise the mood because they are rich in omega 3. These fatty acids are necessary for the good functioning of the nervous system and the brain. 

Oat: It is rich in proteins, carbohydrates and fibre. It is a really complete food taht helps calm anxiety and avoid a bad mood.
